Do I need a chimney or a flue?

Gel fires and Bio ethanol fires do not require a chimney or a flue as they are smoke and fume free.
Normal ventilation in the room is sufficient.

What fuel do I use and what is the difference between them?

Fire Gel
is thickened so that it is easy to pour but leaves a slight residue in the container. This can be cleaned out with soapy water every 3-4 burnings. As Fire gel is thickened it is made stable and requires no extra safety mechanisms inside the containers.

Bio ethanol Liquid has no thickener, pours like water and requires no cleaning but a little more care must be taken when pouring the fuel. Bio ethanol liquid fuel boxes require extra materials and should be double walled inside the containers  in case of leakage. Large fire boxes must be sectioned  to keep the fuel burning safely as larger quantities of liquid usually held the advantage of this being a longer burn time. Our ECO FIRE Bio fuel burns a brightly as fire gel unlike other fuels on the market because it is made from the highest grade ethanol with no additives.

How long does the fuel last?

The burn time is dependant on the size of chamber that it is held in, generally each 1 litre bottle will hold between 4-6 hours of fuel.

Larger fuel containers will burn for less time per litre.

How much heat will I get?

Again this is dictated by the fuel chamber size, here is a general guide.

Firebowls and fireboxes

Small and med               0.5 kw
Large                            1-3 kw

Bio fireplaces have fuel capacity in the product description

Heating Capacity bio-fireplaces and burners for bioethanol

On the listing of each bio-fire (or burner bioethanol) is indicated the power in watts. For example: the Bio-fireplace plaza has a heating capacity of 5 kw. In comparaison, the power of an electric heater generaly varies between 750 and 1 500 watts. In winter, in a moderately isolated habitat, a power of 1 kw enables heating at 20 °C, an area of 8 to 10m2.

Power / area (m2) needed in winter:

Power of heating:                 Surface heated to 20 °C:

1 000 watts                            8 to 10 m2

1 500 watts                          12 to 15 m2

1 800 watts                          14 to 18 m2

2 500 watts                          20 to 25 m2

3 000 watts                          24 to 30 m2

3 150 watts                           25 to 63 m2

Does it smell?
As long as the gel container is cleaned out regularly no smoke or smell will occur.
Liquid Bio ethanol fuel does not leave a residue like the gel and needs no cleaning.

What happens if I spill the fire gel or bio ethanol fuel?

If you accidentally spill the fire gel it can be easily removed with a soft damp cloth

gel fireplace or bio ethanol fireplaces are not affected by building regulations.

How do I install my fireplace?

Our Fireplace can be installed very quickly and easily with very basic DIY tools. It can be installed on any wall that can hold the weight of the fire. Installation Instructions are included.

How long does the fuel last?

The length of time the gel lasts is determined by the size of container. Typically a medium sized burner will burn for 5 hours using one ltr of gel. Bio fires fuel capacity are given next to product description.
